The proxy converts between common image formats (including, but not limited to GIF, JPG, PNG, BMP and WBMP) to deliver an image supported by the destination device. For images larger than the maximum size supported by the device, the proxy scales the image to the device, minimizing content download times.
As MMS viruses emerge to exploit bugs in various MMS client applications, the proxy will also be updated to block harmful content.
The proxy is a standard feature of the Multimedia Messaging Centre (MMSC) built into the latest release of the Now SMS/MMS Gateway, v4.0, which is being released today. Additional information regarding the Now SMS/MMS Gateway can be found at http://www.nowsms.com. The announcement of the Now MMS Content Adaptation Proxy extends the dynamic content adaptation and conversion features of the Now SMS/MMS Gateway to other Multimedia Messaging Centres.
"As multimedia messaging support in mobile devices grows more sophisticated, content developers should not have to develop their content to the lowest common denominator," stated Brian Jackson, Managing Director of Now Wireless. "Dynamic content conversion and adaptation is the only practical solution that will allow MMS to evolve, while still providing support for low end devices."
